Neil Buxton - Managing director

Neil has 20 years experience of analysing the non-ferrous and steel industries. He commenced his career with CRU in 1982, where he was a member of the steel and ferro-alloys team. In 1986, he joined the highly regarded metals research team at Shearson Lehman Brothers, where he was director of metals research with responsibility for base metals research to support the company's LME trading, equity research and investment banking operations. In 1991, he established an independent research and consultancy division for Metal Bulletin, leading a team of over 10 analysts.

Philip Klapwijk - Director

Philip holds degrees in economics from the London School of Economics and a Master’s degree from the College of Europe in Bruges. Philip was appointed Group Economist at Consolidated GoldFields in 1987, where he was responsible for developing the group’s economic scenarios as well as participating in the work for the annual Gold Survey. He has worked for GFMS since 1989.

Paul Walker - Director

After graduating with degrees in commerce and economics from the University of Cape Town, Paul worked as a researcher in the UK House of Commons before joining the International Lead and Zinc Study Group, where he was involved in a wide range of economic studies and forecasts. He also has a PhD in economics from the University of Nottingham. Paul joined GFMS in 1995.

Shairaz Ahmed - Analyst

Shairaz Ahmed, joined GFMS Metals Consulting in October 2007 and assists Neil Buxton with the research and analysis of the steel and base metals markets. Having recently graduated from Queen Mary & Westfield University of London, he holds a degree in BSc Economics and Geography. Prior to joining GFMS, he worked for Barclays Capital as an I.T. analyst.

Nikos Kavalis - Senior Analyst

Nikos Kavalis joined GFMS on 1st September 2003. He is primarily working with Philip Klapwik on investment as well as official sector activity research. He is also responsible for econometric modeling of precious metals markets and other quantitative work.
Nikos holds a first degree in Econometrics and Economics from the University of York, and an MSc in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics from the London School of Economics.

Rob Smith - Analyst

Robert Smith joined the GFMS Metals Consulting team as a metals analyst in September 2008, assisting with the research and analysis of the base metals and steel markets.
Robert holds a first class degree with honours in BSc Economics, graduating from the University of Essex in July 2008. Prior to joining GFMS, he worked as a junior correspondent at BaseMetals.com over the summer of 2007.
